About SIDS

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the unexpected and sudden death of an infant that remains unexplained after all other causes have been ruled out through autopsy, deathscene investigation and medical history. SIDS affects families of all races, religions, and income levels. SIDS usually occurs during sleep and strikes without warning. Neither parents nor doctors can tell which babies will die.

SIDS IS NOT contagious or hereditary.

SIDS IS NOT caused by suffocation.
SIDS  IS NOT caused by immunization
SIDS IS NOT caused by child abuse or neglect

SIDS IS NO one's fault
SIDS IS NOT predictable, but studies show that to reduce the risk of SIDS you should:


Place your healthy baby on their BACK TO SLEEP
DO NOT smoke around your baby
Use firm, flat bedding with no toys or other soft bedding such as blankets or comforters
Avoid overheating your baby, Dress your baby in as much or as little as you would wear
Breastfeed your baby if possible
Take good care of your baby and yourself

Pacifiers help reduce the risk of SIDS at naptime and bedtime

Fans on low setting in infants room helps keep air circulating and reduce SIDS risk
